Persian carpets belong in my family. In the late 1920s my grandmother gave my grandfather a Persian carpet for an engagement gift. That carpet, though fiercely worn out, remains in active duty in our den. I grew up surrounded by such carpets in all sizes and colors.
When I began a new painting series, it seemed natural to draw from the beauty and design elements of Persian carpets, though in actuality, the connection of my images to the carpet designs may be tenuous at best. Regardless, the carpet pattern of a central image, a border, and a fringe are evident to some degree in each.
